A study of farmland in western Poland found that the unmown areas around wind turbine bases are a haven for wild bees. Bee numbers and diversity there matched, and sometimes exceeded, those of nearby natural grassland. Sprayed crop fields around them held far fewer bees. The reason is simple: solitary wild bees nest in undisturbed soil, which ploughed fields lack. The effect was strongest where grassland was far away. The condition is that the turbine bases are kept free of herbicides. In intensively farmed areas such as Loznitsa, this is a direct opportunity for pollinators. Source: EcoPortal, August 2026

A study in Türkiye's Aegean region compared 300 beekeepers: 150 with apiaries within 10 km of a wind farm and 150 without one nearby. Average annual income in the first group was 314,970 Turkish lira, against 241,280 in the second. After statistical matching of the two groups, a gap of about 45,000 lira remained in favour of beekeepers near the turbines. The authors link the effect to wind farm sites being restricted land, largely free of pesticides and rich in wildflowers. They recommend planting bee-friendly vegetation around turbines. The study shows an association rather than proof of cause, but it supports the idea of sustainable beekeeping on generation sites that is part of the ZephyrNova concept.
