The European Commission’s Directorate-General for Energy has published a collection of 20 success stories on industrial electrification and energy efficiency.

Behind them are 189 demonstrators in 21 Member States, representing about €1 billion of investment, including around €600 million of EU support from Horizon Europe, LIFE and the Innovation Fund.

The solutions fall into five routes: industrial heat pumps, electric furnaces and boilers, demand flexibility with local renewables and storage, waste-heat recovery and industrial symbiosis, and energy-efficiency measures. According to the Commission, deploying them could halve the share of fossil fuels in industrial energy use by 2040.

Demand flexibility with local green energy and the reuse of waste heat are at the core of the ZephyrNova model.
